About Nepal Time (NPT)
Nepal Time (NPT, IANA: Asia/Kathmandu) is the civil time of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, set at UTC+5:45 — one of only three time zones in the world with a 45-minute offset (along with Chatham Islands New Zealand UTC+12:45 and Eucla Western Australia UTC+8:45). The 45-minute offset has practical advantages — Nepal pilots' radio communications with regional ATC are easier to deconflict from Indian-airspace traffic clocked in IST. Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) is the primary time standard by which the world regulates clocks and time, defined since 1972 as the time at the Prime Meridian (0° longitude) maintained by BIPM (Bureau International des Poids et Mesures) in Sèvres, France.
