Our Mission

MegaCalc exists to make unit conversion and engineering calculation fast, accurate, and universally accessible. Too many conversion tools are cluttered with ads, require account signups, or produce inaccurate results from outdated conversion factors. We built MegaCalc to be the tool we wished existed: clean, instant, and trustworthy. Every conversion factor is sourced from authoritative international standards — SI, NIST, ISO, and BIPM — so you can rely on the results for professional and academic work.

What is MegaCalc?

MegaCalc is a free, fast, and comprehensive online unit converter and calculator. We cover length, weight, temperature, speed, volume, area, time, data storage, energy, pressure, currency, and dozens of engineering and scientific categories — with over 13,000 individual conversion pairs across 50+ categories. Our calculator library covers the full scope of undergraduate mechanical engineering: statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, machine design, materials science, and manufacturing, alongside everyday calculators for finance, health, and daily life. All tools are free to use, require no account, and work entirely in your browser.

Technology

MegaCalc is built as a modern web application using Next.js with server-side rendering, ensuring that pages load fast and search engines can index all content. Calculations and conversions execute entirely in the browser using JavaScript — no round-trips to a server means instant results as you type. Currency exchange rates and cryptocurrency prices are fetched via our API layer and cached server-side, then delivered to your browser without exposing third-party API keys. The site is statically generated at build time for most pages, with incremental static regeneration for live-data pages, giving you both speed and freshness.

Who Built MegaCalc

MegaCalc was founded by Christopher Floied, a mechanical engineer (BSME), to build the engineering reference site he wished existed during his coursework and early career. Christopher architects the engineering methodology — selecting which formulas to publish, choosing which authoritative references to cite, specifying acceptance criteria for accuracy, and reviewing the verification process documented on the Methodology page.

Day-to-day calculator implementation, content writing, and unit conversion tooling are produced by the MegaCalc team using the engineering methodology Christopher has set. Calculators in core mechanical engineering domains (statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, machine design) carry Christopher’s direct review of the underlying formula and citations.

Every calculator is implemented from published formulas in authoritative engineering references — Marks’ Standard Handbook, Perry’s Chemical Engineers’ Handbook, Shigley’s Mechanical Engineering Design, Hibbeler’s Statics & Dynamics, Çengel’s Heat & Mass Transfer and Thermodynamics, plus relevant ASME, ASTM, ISO, and NIST standards — and verified against textbook worked examples before publication.

MegaCalc is an independent project, not affiliated with any university, textbook publisher, or equipment manufacturer. The site is funded by display advertising and all tools are provided free to the engineering community without signup or paywall.
