Force Converter

Convert between newtons, pound-force, kilogram-force, kips, and more

Force conversions are fundamental to structural engineering, mechanical design, and physics. Engineers calculate forces when sizing beams, designing fasteners, analyzing trusses, and selecting motors. The newton is the SI unit, but many practical engineering applications still use kilogram-force and pound-force, which are common in industry documentation and equipment specifications. Accurate force conversion prevents structural errors and ensures safety margins are correctly applied.

About Force Units

The SI unit of force is the newton (N = kg·m/s²). The kilonewton (kN) and meganewton (MN) are used for structural loads. Pound-force (lbf) is standard in US engineering. Kilogram-force (kgf or kilopond, kp) is a metric-technical unit still used in many industries. Kip (1,000 lbf) is common in US structural engineering.
