Unlike dogs, cats do not show as dramatic a size-related difference in lifespan, so a single formula works reasonably well across most breeds. The first year of a cat's life is a period of extremely rapid development — a one-year-old cat has reached full sexual maturity and is physiologically comparable to a 15-year-old human. The second year adds roughly nine more human-equivalent years, bringing a two-year-old cat to about 24 in human terms. After that, each cat year adds approximately four human years.
