Test Grade Calculator

Test scoring is one of the most fundamental calculations in education. The percentage score represents the proportion of correct answers relative to the total number of questions, multiplied by 100. This simple ratio provides a standardized way to compare performance across tests of different lengths. The standard grading scale maps percentages to letter grades: 90-100% earns an A, 80-89% earns a B, 70-79% earns a C, 60-69% earns a D, and below 60% is an F. However, many teachers apply curved grading where the scale is adjusted based on class performance. Different types of tests weight questions differently. On a simple test where all questions are worth one point, the calculation is straightforward division. However, on tests with multi-point questions, partial credit, or weighted sections, you would need to sum the points earned and divide by total possible points. Standardized tests like the SAT, ACT, and GRE use more complex scoring systems that may include penalties for wrong answers, scaled scores, or percentile rankings. These cannot be computed with a simple percentage calculation. Understanding your test percentage helps identify areas for improvement. If you consistently score lower on certain types of questions, you can focus your studying on those areas for future assessments.
