The Theory Behind It
If completed coursework has average C and the final carries weight w as a fraction, the course grade is C(1−w)+Fw. Rearranging for a target T gives F=[T−C(1−w)]/w. Enter the final weight as a percentage in the form; the calculation converts it to a fraction. The minimum uses a zero on the final and the maximum uses the entered score cap. A target above the maximum is unreachable within that cap; a target at or below the minimum is already secured under this numerical model. The current average must represent all work outside the final with the correct internal weights. If the final replaces another exam, or several assignments remain, use the full grade planner. The calculation applies no institutional rounding or minimum-exam rule. A very small final weight can make a modest course-grade improvement require a very large final score.
